There is nothing like a quick weekend away to refresh your spirit. Since I live in the suburbs near Washington, DC, I have access to many quick getaways just a short drive away.
Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD is a one hour drive away from my home but offers a blend of history and hustle and bustle that is unique to the nearly 290-year-old town. I have visited Baltimore countless times and each trip I discover something different. Whether it’s the unique culture of each area or the gaping disparity of opportunity and resources between the wealthy and the poor.
This trip my husband and I played tourist and stayed downtown at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Inner Harbor. The hotel was across from the Royal Farms Arena but a healthy walk to the Inner Harbor which offers restaurants and shops.
Where we stayed
The hotel room itself was cozy and well decorated. I especially loved the LED mirror. Unfortunately, that weekend was the same weekend for a large event and they have elevator issues. It made every trip out of the room a hassle. I would recommend the hotel, especially if you are hosting a large event. I would note that their on-site restaurant was lacking and garage parking was cheaper than the often over-filled valet parking. The staff did the best for the demand that was presented to them.
WHAT WE DID
Now on to the sites. If you haven’t been to the Inner Harbor. You have to go. The water is so peaceful with lovely restaurants that offer delicious seafood. There are paddle boats that give you a closer glimpse of how the Harbor is still a key part of Baltimore’s industrial history.
Blocks from our hotel food highlight were, Maisy’s it was a quaint dining spot that we chose (once we figured out the hotel restaurant left much to be desired). They offered unique cocktails and a romantic ambiance hidden amidst the downtown hustle.
The weekend was successful in rejuvenating our spirits. On our way home we took a detour to nearby Annapolis and had the loveliest brunch by the sea at Carol’s Creek. I don’t know what it is about water, but it has a way of calming me.
