Couples Getaway: Sheraton Downtown Columbia

Once again my husband and I took a quick weekend trip away. These getaways have proven to be essential in rejuvenating our minds and our relationship. This time we had the pleasure of staying at the Sheraton in downtown Columbia, MD.

Location

The hotel was located in the central part of Columbia, Maryland. This is located not too far from BWI airport and about 45 min drive to Washington, DC. Howard County, Maryland boasts an eco-focus and the location of the hotel highlighted this. It is situated along Lake Kittamaqundi, a 27-acre man-made reservoir, that provides an extensive walking/jogging trail, paddle boarding, and fishing.

Amenities

The hotel like so many others has your standard gym as well as an on-site restaurant and bar area. The dual dining options on site was a nice plus. We had drinks and a light dinner at the bar which had daily drink specials and enjoyed an all you can eat breakfast buffet the following day in their lower level dining area. In both cases the food was good and the drinks decent (though slightly overpriced). The hotel offers a shuttle service and free garage parking for your convenience.

 Local Attractions

Aside from the lake, the hotel is conveniently located next to a Whole Foods and three restaurants (Clyde’s, Villa Italia, Sushi Sono) that provide variety for those that might be having family gatherings or wanting to try something other than what the hotel offers.

The Columbia Mall with and many other dining options were located just a quick drive away.

Overall Impression

I was pleased with how quiet and serene the hotel felt given all of the local attractions around and the events it was holding that weekend. The staff at the hotel were courteous and helpful. For a couples getaway, it served its purpose. Our room was nicely tucked away from the elevator. Even though the room had an adjoining door, we didn’t hear anything from neighboring rooms.

If you are new to the area and would like a variety of amenities, I think this hotel is great for you. The biggest negative was the fact that the pool and jacuzzi are located outside so it was not available during our winter stay.

Overall I would recommend this hotel for couples or even groups of friends looking for a weekend escape.

Wow, sounds like a fantastic getaway! I love hotels that are a step away from everything you need. That’s a bummer that the pool wasn’t available but perhaps something to look forward to during warmer months.
