Creating a self-care pampering routine has been important to carve out quality time with me. During that time I gather my thoughts, reflect on creative ideas, and unwind. Taking extra time for myself allows me to refill my cup, appreciate my body and appearance, and recharge so I can engage better with others. Here are some areas I like to add a little extra pampering when I can. These aren’t hours-long routines, but the intentionality is what makes it special.

Skincare

A nighttime routine is essential for me to unwind and take time for myself in a special way. Whether it’s the evening or the weekend taking time to unwind this way is lovely.

For those whose love language is physical touch, this is a great way to practice that love language on yourself. I take my time lathering on cleansers, masks, serums, and creams. That extra sensation helps in the relaxation process and also has the added benefit of draining lymph nodes if targeted well.

Current Favorites and Steps:

  1. Beautycounter cleansing balm, hydra gel toner, eye cream, sleep cream
  2. Romer skincare gel oil cleanser and hydrating treatment
  3. Meleskincare toner (more intense), Beautycounter hydrating toner (more gentle)
  4. After everything sinks in I use a CBD facial oil. Love the ones Calluna Labs has.

Shower and Bath

Similar to my skincare routine. Taking extra time once a week in the shower adds an extra later or “luxury” to a daily routine. I bring out the nice exfoliating scrubs and body oils. I use an exfoliating loofah daily but my favorite scrubs smell so lovely and create a sensory experience. The body oil sits and seeps into my freshly scrubbed skin then I put on my favorite fluffy robe and let my body soak in the moisture before carrying on with my evening or day. I have loved Rituals‘ line of products as well as the line of lotions and creams Flamingo has as well.

Hair

Having natural coarse hair meant “wash day” was a marathon. I’ve managed to streamline my routine. I do take the time to work in sensory stimulation into the routine. I add scalp massages and steam when I deep condition to mimic the hair salon experience. I often play a favorite playlist or podcast to listen to while detangling and styling. A routine I used to dread is now another opportunity for quality time with myself.
