A Day at the Fair| Living Fully Alive

Nothing says summer is almost over like the County Fair. I recently went to our local fair with my sister and we had so much fun. Like in many areas, the county or state fair is a perennial summer event with rides, vendors, food and sometimes animals that attract all types of people. It’s the quintessential end of summer event that we’ve enjoyed since we were kids.

Lately, I’ve been on a mission to be fully involved in every event that I take part of. It might sound strange that I have to prompt myself to be more intentional in the way I spend my time, but when your mind is pulled in so many ways it’s hard to be 100% IN one thing.

How many of us have been in one meeting and mentally planning what’s for dinner or reminding yourself of that event next week you need to prepare for and then realize you while you were physically present in that meeting you weren’t fully there. You may have been listening but you were not fully engaged.

As Saint Irenaeus says…being fully alive is a glorification of God, but it’s also an exercise of good stewardship. Time is the most valuable resource because it cannot be bought or generated. So why not give your full self when you spend precious moments whether it’s with friends at dinner or out at the fair.

It means valuing yourself and choosing wisely how you spend your downtime. Are you scrolling mindlessly on social media and not building towards a goal or dream? Are you putting off attending events or activities because of your fear of doing them alone?

I challenge you to live fully. Say yes to life and MEAN YES not just in word but with your whole self. The world needs more of the fullness of who you are.
